Faith Formation

Education and Faith Formation Committee

The committee oversees all areas of parish catechesis and faith formation. These include: adult formation, religious education for ages 4-12th grade, sacramental preparation, and spiritual growth.

Adult Formation

The Bishops' pastoral document Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us states "Adult faith formation, by which people consciously grow in the life of Christ through experience, reflections, prayer, and study must be the central task in this catechetical enterprise."

 

Adult Education

Persons to plan and participate in various adult education offerings, book discussions, Bible study, faith-sharing groups, parenting resources, etc.

R.C.I.A. Team (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

Persons accompany our group of St. Edward catechumens(unbaptized individuals who wish to join the Church) to their formation sessions. As a member of the team, you would share your faith while offering friendship and a sense of community.

Lay Formation Program

A three year Archdiocesan program to: enable adults to grow in their understanding of the ministry of Jesus, prepare adults for service within and beyond the local Church, and help adults develop leadership skills.

Elementary Religious Education Program

Persons to teach or assist in teaching children, grades 1-8, who attend public school. Meets Wednesday evenings, September through April, at St. Edward School.

Elementary Religious Education Parent Planning Committee

Religious education parents to plan and implement educational activities, intergenerational parish events, service projects, and family meals. Meets as needed August through April.

C.O.R.E. (Cooperative Opportunities in Religious Education)

Certified educators to teach the metro Religious Education program for Catholic students in grades 9-12 who attend public high schools. Meets Wednesday evenings for three six-week sessions per year from September through April at Columbus High School.

St. Edward Early Childhood Center

This center provides daycare, school age extended care, preschool, and summer care. A safe, supervised, educational, and recreational environment is provided for children.

St. Edward School

Pre-school through grade 8, St. Edward School offers a quality education, permeated with our sense of relationship to God, the Church, and our neighbors. Our school is a member of the Cedar Valley Catholic Education System and the Dubuque Archdiocesan Catholic Schools.

C.L.O.W. (Children’s Liturgy of the Word)

Persons to teach and assist children ages 4-1st grade who attend the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday mornings.

Vacation Bible School

Persons to plan, teach, and lead the Vacation Bible School activities one week each summer for children grades K-5th.

Sacramental Preparation

Baptism

Adults to educate parents on the sacrament of Baptism and Christian parenting. Classes are held monthly at metro Catholic parishes.

Eucharist

Adults to help second grade children make blessing cups, plan and implement the Bread and Juice ceremony, and to plan and implement the children's Eucharistic retreat.

Confirmation

Adults to serve on the planning team and as group leaders for our high school students.

Marriage

Sponsor couples share their experiences with couples preparing

for marriage.
