My name is Father Greg Lambert, and I am thrilled to join your parish community. I have been assigned to serve both as the pastoral associate at St. Edward, as well as the chaplain of Columbus High School. Although I am originally from Melbourne, Florida, this is my 4th year in the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Upon completing seven years of seminary formation in the diocese of Orlando, I decided to take a break from seminary. In that two-year time frame, I moved to Iowa to live with my brother’s family in Dyersville. Can you believe that I enjoyed Iowa so much that I decided to stay!? When I did decide to return to the seminary it would be for the Archdiocese of Dubuque.
I recently graduated from the University of St. Mary of the Lake (Mundelein Seminary) and was ordained a priest of Jesus Christ this past Memorial Day weekend. I could not think of a better place to begin serving God’s people. I enjoy being outdoors and staying active, and teaching others about how good God is. I’m also a football fan and look forward to attending and cheering on our local Columbus High Sailors. I’m honored and blessed to be a part of this great diocese.
Coming from a bigger city, finding community is a serious factor in how comfortable one can be in an area. Over the past 4 years I have found deep, lasting friendships amongst the people of God here in Iowa. I have felt humbled as these families invited me into their homes and made space for me in their personal lives. I quickly become enamored with how tightly Iowans stick together. The people of these small towns know each other and defend their community with the ferocity of fighting for a family member. This distinct characteristic of Iowa is something that endeared me to the area and has pushed me to come out of my comfort zone, while at the same time expanding my horizons.
When I moved to Dyersville 4 years ago, I would not have guessed that I would have been accepted with such fervent love. My time teaching religion and technology at the Catholic schools in Peosta, and Farley have been the highlights of my time in Iowa so far. However, I look forward to making even more highlights by getting to serve all of you! Feel free to say “hello” when you see me.
I look forward to meeting and serving with you all, Father Greg Lambert
